Manila Central University (MCU), through its College of Nursing, welcomed delegations from the Royal Danish Embassy in Manila and the Danish Ministry of Senior Citizens on December 11, 2025, at the MCU campus.
MCU was once again selected as the Philippine academic institution to host a roundtable discussion between Danish officials and nursing students, following the Royal Danish Embassy’s previous visit to the university last year.
The discussion focused on the practice of geriatrics in the Philippines, highlighting the current scope of academic preparation and industry opportunities in geriatric care. The exchange provided students with valuable global perspectives on aging populations and healthcare systems.
Representing MCU were Prof. Melvin D. Miranda, RN, MAN, Dean of the College of Nursing; faculty members Maria Elena C. Diasen and Romeo A. Marquez, Jr.; and Ms. Giandelu Carissa E. Santos, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The delegation from the Royal Danish Embassy in Manila was led by His Excellency Franz-Michael Mellbin, Danish Ambassador to the Philippines, while the delegation from the Danish Ministry of Senior Citizens was headed by Hon. Mette Kierkgaard, Minister of Senior Citizens. Representatives from TESDA–NCR CAMANAVA also joined the discussion, contributing to meaningful exchanges on education, training, and workforce readiness.
The visit followed the establishment of the Memorandum of Understanding titled “Education, Training, and Recruitment of Filipino Health and Care Professionals,” a government-to-government partnership between the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of Denmark. The MOU serves as a framework for cooperation in developing Filipino health and care professionals for international practice.
This engagement underscores MCU’s commitment to advancing nursing education, strengthening international collaboration, and preparing future healthcare professionals to meet both local and global demands.
