Manila Central University marked a historic dual celebration on July 17, 2025, holding its 77th College of Medicine and 113th Tertiary Commencement Exercises at the Solaire Grand Ballroom, in time with the University’s 120th Foundation Anniversary. With the theme “Creating the Future Today,” the event honored not only academic excellence, but also the spirit of resilience, dignity, and pride of the graduating class.
University President Dr. Renato C. Tanchoco, Jr. formally conferred degrees and titles upon the graduates and delivered a powerful address that captured both the spirit of the occasion and the university’s unwavering commitment to progress.
“You once stood here to dream,” he began. “And today, we lay the path and foundation toward the future you are destined to build. This moment is not just a celebration of what you’ve achieved—it is a declaration of the future you are empowered to create.”
Quoting MCU founder Filemon Tanchoco Sr., he reminded graduates that the journey of learning does not end at graduation. “As our founder once said, ‘Congratulations, graduates—now, you may start learning.’ Because true learning will start once you practice your profession.”
In line with the university’s commitment to innovation, Dr. Tanchoco also proudly announced the launch of 6 new academic programs:
- Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management
- Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management
- Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship
- Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing
(with Specialization in Digital Animation Technology) - Bachelor of Arts in Communication
- Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology
“We are proud to celebrate our institution’s 120th founding anniversary by expanding our academic offerings,” Dr. Tanchoco declared. “MCU doesn’t wait for change—we shape tomorrow.”
Keynote speaker Dr. Caesar Mercado Ong, M.D., an esteemed educator with over three decades of service at MCU, offered the graduating class guidance. Acknowledging the dilemma of new graduates, he encouraged them to explore various paths: pursue further training, engage in research, consider entering the academe, or begin practicing their profession. He also recognized the importance of taking a break—but with caution..
“It’s okay if your plans don’t unfold perfectly,” he said. “What matters most is knowing yourself—your strengths, your weaknesses, your values—and striving to become the best version of who you are. This is not a race. This is a lifelong journey.”
Other highlights included the presentation of candidates by Dr. Eivin B. Tolentino, the petition for conferment by Mr. Joshua Emil Castillo, and the induction into the MCU Alumni Association led by Dr. Ma. Althea T. Camacho, President of the Alumni Association.
Ms. Vhan Danielle Cabillo Benitez, magna cum laude and batch representative, delivered a heartfelt speech emphasizing that education is both a privilege and a responsibility.
“This degree must be more than a personal success.” she said. “It must be a tool to dismantle injustice, to extend opportunity, and to make room at the table for those who have long been left standing”
As MCU closes another academic chapter, the university continues its legacy of producing professionals who not only lead in their fields, but lead with conscience—creating the future today, for a better tomorrow.
