Students from the BA Communication and Basic Education programs of Manila Central University participated in an industry exposure visit to The Philippine Star, one of the country’s leading news organizations.
The activity aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the news production process, from content development to publication, while emphasizing the importance of journalistic integrity and ethical reporting.
During the visit, students were introduced to key concepts in media literacy, including the identification of misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation, as well as the role of critical thinking in detecting fake news in today’s digital environment.
The experience allowed students to connect classroom learning with real-world media practices, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to become responsible communicators and informed educators.
Through initiatives like this, MCU continues to strengthen industry linkages and provide meaningful learning opportunities that prepare students to navigate and contribute to the evolving media landscape.
