Manila Central University has officially entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Genome Center’s Protein, Proteomics, and Metabolomic Facility (PGC PPMF) to strengthen collaboration in the field of clinical proteomics research.
This important partnership aims to foster cutting-edge research in disease detection and biomarker discovery, advancing both scientific understanding and practical applications in healthcare.
The signing ceremony was held during the two-day PPMF Capacity Building Extension Program for Clinical Proteomics: Research Design Workshop, held from October 1-2, 2024, at the University of the Philippines Diliman. The event brought together experts, faculty, and researchers for insightful discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in pushing the boundaries of clinical proteomics research.
Day 1: Lectures on Clinical Proteomics
On the first day, participants gathered at the President S.P. Lopez Function Hall, Room 104, University Hotel, UP Diliman, for a full day of lectures and discussions. The event schedule included the following key sessions:
- Opening Remarks by Dr. Felicitas L. Lacbawan, Executive Director of the Philippine Genome Center, set the tone for the day.
- Session 1 featured Dr. Neil Andrew D. Bascos, Director of the PGC PPMF, who presented on “Proteomics for Disease Detection and Diagnosis.”
- Session 2 highlighted Dr. Eloise I. Prieto-Vasquez from the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, UP Diliman, who discussed “Sample Preparation and Processing Workflows for Clinical Proteomics and Cancer Biomarker Discovery.”
- Session 3 was led by Dr. Baby Rorielyn T. Dimayacyac-Esleta, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Chemistry, UP Diliman, on “Clinical Proteomics for Discovery of Candidate Biomarkers, Research Design and Implementation.”
- Session 4 closed the lecture series with Dr. Aaron James F. Reyes from De La Salle University, discussing “Targeted Proteomics: From Research to the Clinic.”
Throughout the day, engaging discussions took place during the Q&A sessions following each group of lectures, allowing participants to explore the implications of the research further.
Day 2: MOU Signing and Networking Event
The second day of the event focused on strengthening collaborations and expanding researcher networks. The day began with opening remarks by Dr. Phillip Ian P. Padilla, Assistant to the Executive Director for Services and Extension at the Philippine Genome Center.
At 10:15 AM, the highlight of the event—the formal signing of the MOA—took place. The ceremony solidified the commitment of both institutions to advancing clinical proteomics research and developing joint initiatives. Following the signing, participants engaged in a networking session, providing an opportunity for fruitful discussions and partnerships.
The day concluded with closing ceremonies, featuring the awarding of certificates and remarks from Mr. Manuel Victor B. San Pedro, Laboratory Manager at PGC PPMF. Attendees were also given a tour of the PGC-PPMF facilities to gain a deeper understanding of the cutting-edge technology and resources available.
